Problem

Smart home shopping starts with products, not with your home. I asked r/smarthome how people decide what to buy. The post got 13K views and 30 comments, and the strongest pattern in the 19 real answers was to start from an annoyance, not a device. People also distrusted tools that claim to know better.

Approach

So I designed GadgetlyHome around that. You tap the rooms that bother you, and devices appear where they help, each with a plain reason you can keep or remove. Then you “play a day” to see what each one does, and leave with a priced, ordered plan and where to buy. Solar is sized down to the panel. No account needed.

Highlights

  • Research-driven design decisions
  • Four flow framings built and compared
  • A planned A/B test to raise sign-up confirmation
Set up your home: pick a layout, then tap a room to edit its objects
Your home: pick a layout, then tap a room to edit what is in it.
Budget and priority: a budget slider, a top priority and how hands-on you want to be
Your life: budget, top priority, and how hands-on you want to be.

Play a day: watch a day in your home and see what each device changes.
